LAVONNE ‘NUMPY’ NELSON

LaVonne “Numpy” M. Nelson, 80, of Fort Dodge died on Monday, March 1, 2021, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with a visitation from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday also at Grace Lutheran Church. The service will be livestreamed on the Grace Lutheran Church Facebook Page. Interment will take place at North Lawn Cemetery.

LaVonne M. Nelson was born on June 29, 1940, to Tilford and Josephine (Resdahl) Hovick in Fort Dodge, IA. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1958. LaVonne Hovick was united in marriage to Jerry Nelson on June 6, 1959, at Badger Lutheran Church. She did the income taxes with Jerry for many years until his passing in 2000. LaVonne then worked as a caretaker at Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge. LaVonne was known by most family and friends as “Numpy.” She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them as much as she could.

LaVonne is survived by her children, Sheila (Pat) Parks and Mike Nelson; grandchildren, Jamie (Nic) Huse, Sean (Ashley) Parks, Kegan Nelson, and Kendra (Tanner) Friesth; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kinsley, Olivia, Chloe, and Renley; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Shirley Hovick. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tilford and Josephine; husband, Jerry; and her siblings, CJ, Bub, and Arlo Hovick, Joyce Johansen and JoAnn Hilstad.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
