Bob graduated from Lanyon High School in 1954 and then attended North Park College in Chicago, IL. In 1957, after enlisting in the United States Air Force, Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life, Myrna G. Mears of Gowrie, IA. After proudly serving his country, Bob was honorably discharged and returned home to farm until he retired in 2004.

Throughout his life, Bob had many varied interests. Among them was his love of flying. At the age of 16, Bob received his Private Pilot license. Later, following his service in the Air Force, Bob became a licensed Flight Instructor and began teaching the Private Pilot Ground School at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, IA. He purchased his own airplane and often gave lessons from home, using the landing strip which he had constructed on the farm. Over the years, Bob also became an Amateur Radio Operator, drove school bus for the Prairie Community School District, taught Experienced Based Career Education at Fort Dodge High School and worked as a photographer for the Farm News, in Fort Dodge, IA.

Among the interests that Bob and Myrna shared together was traveling throughout the United States with their children. They also enjoyed woodworking and painting. Many of the crafts they made together were sold locally and in other stores around the state.

Bob had a deep faith and shared his love of Christian music by singing in his home church, Gowrie United Methodist Church. He also sang for many weddings and at other churches in the area. A highlight of Bob’s Christian faith was a trip to the Holy Land with The Gaithers.

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrna Jacobson, along with four children, Joe (Rachel) Jacobson of Madison, MS, Shawn (Amy) Jacobson of Amana, IA, Kristin Jacobson of Gowrie, IA, and Kerry (Chad) Pliner of Fort Dodge, IA, six grandchildren, Lauren (Keith) McWilliams of Cleveland, OH, Michael (Katelyn) Jacobson of Twentynine Palms, CA, Emilie (Ryan) Van Kooten of Ankeny, IA, Katelyn Pliner of Fort Madison, IA, Jon Jacobson of Tiffin, IA, and Cameron Pliner of Fort Dodge, IA.
