ROLFE — Lucile (Caryl) Taylor, 101, of Rolfe died Thursday, July 11, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:30am. Burial will be at St. Margaret’s Cemetery near Rolfe at 1:30pm.

Social visitation for family and friends will be at the Rolfe Community Center on Tuesday, July 16 from 3 to 5pm. The Rosary will be at 2:45pm with Msgr. Michael Sernett.

Lucile L. Taylor, daughter of Roy and Mamie (Oshel) Caryl, was born March 4, 1918 in Orient, Iowa. She moved with her family, by train on her first birthday, to Rutland. She graduated from Humboldt with a Normal Training Degree. She had a year of Post Graduate in Rutland and taught four years in rural schools of Humboldt County.

Lucile was united in marriage to Wallace Taylor, September 17, 1942 at St. Mary’s Church, Humboldt. They made their home in Rolfe, where she was associated with her husband in The Taylor Oil Company until retiring in 1983. During his service in W.W.II she operated the station and tank truck. Later, she drove school bus.

Lucile was a member of St. Margaret’s Church where she devoted countless hours to C.C.D., Rosary Society, and the Cemetery Committee. She served as Director, Lector, and Eucharistic Minister. She was the recipient of the St. Anne Award in 1966, presented by the Catholic Diocese of Sioux City. This honor was given to leaders of organizations contributing to the spiritual development of youth. Lucile was honored in appreciation for over 15 years of Girl Scouting dedication.

Her community service included many years on the Library Board, a term as City Treasurer, and was a long time member of the Federated Women’s Club.

In her retirement, she made her debut as “Mrs. Claus” and “Hazel” the Good Witch. She visited schools, nursing homes, and hosted elementary children in her home. She was also a Greeter at Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe.

Those who survive and share the joy of her life include her daughters Kay Lynn and husband Denny Cox, their children Aaron, Alyssa with her husband Steve and their son Dagen Taylor; Cynthia Tuttle, her children Brendan with his wife Victoria and their children Iris Lucile and Emerson, and Tamara; sister-in-law Marilyn Caryl, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wallace in 1984, sister Earlene Jergens, brothers Clifton, David, Dan, Burton, and son-in-law Keith Tuttle.
