CLARION — Dean L. Schroeder, 90, of Clarion, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines of complications from surgery.

Visitation for Dean Schroeder will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.

A Celebration of Dean’s life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 3:00-8:00 p.m., at the home of Dean’s son Dann, 1567 Tyrrell Lane in Belmond. Guests are invited to come and bring a story to share.

Dean L. Schroeder was born on April 8, 1929 to Norman and Ruby (Chapman) Schroeder on the family farm near Wall Lake. He attended country school at Wall Lake township and continued his education in Clarion.

While driving school bus, Dean met Joan V. Brooks. The couple was united in marriage on August 10, 1946. To this union, four children were born: David, Jami, Dann & Jona.

Dean worked as a lineman at the Wright County R.E.C. for 38 years. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Clarion Fire Department for 35 years.

Dean loved playing golf (though he was lousy at it), hunting, fishing and damn he looked good in yellow! He was a social butterfly and loved visiting with family and friends.

Dean is survived by his wife of 73 years, Joan; sons David (Terri) Schroeder of Ventura, Dann (Mary) Schroeder of Belmond, daughters Jami (Roger) Carr of Holland and Jona McGrath of Clarion; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Donald Schroeder of Clarion; along with numerous other family members and friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mildred (Glenn) Loux, Velma (Howard) Peterson, Virginia (Merle) Surber, Jack (Dorothy) Schroeder, Anna Maude “Shi” (Oswald) Reiland, Doris “Dode” (Tom) Gibb, Kenny Schroeder and Nadene Schroeder in early childhood, son-in-law Daryl McGrath and sister-in-law Diane Schroeder.
