MAURICE WILLIAM FIELD

He was united in marriage to Norma June Wesley on August 23, 1942, in Blackstone, Virginia, while he was in the service. Maurice served in the Army’s 357th Engineer (GS) Regiment during World War 2 and was stationed in Africa and Italy from 1942 to 1946. He continued his military career in the Army Reserve retiring with the rank of Major.

In the early 1950’s, Maurice & Norma moved to a farm east of Moorland where they raised their family. Maurice continued to reside on the farm until a few months ago when he entered the Marian Home. In addition to farming, Maurice was employed by George A. Hormel & Co. in Fort Dodge as a foreman in the Smoked Meats Department until the plant closed in 1981. He then was able to enjoy farming as a full time career. In addition to feeding cattle, he also had a beef cow herd and continued to play an active role in the cattle operation throughout his life.

Maurice was an avid Cyclone fan and was a football and men’s basketball season ticket holder for many years beginning in the 1960’s. As a member of the Cyclone Club, he picked out his seats in Hilton Coliseum and enjoyed cheering for the Clones for many years. He also attended several football bowl games and Big 12 Basketball Tournaments in Kansas City. He also enjoyed traveling and toured China and Australia.

He served his community as a member of several boards and organizations including the Moorland School Board, Moorland Fire Board, Roberts Elevator Board, Fort Dodge Federal Land Bank Board, Webster County Cattlemen’s Board and the Webster County 4-H Foundation Board. Maurice was a long time Elkhorn Township Trustee and also was a member of the Czech Heritage Club and Fort Dodge Area Gardeners Club.

He is survived by his brother, Everett (Beverly) of Fort Dodge, daughters, Kathleen (Delbert) of Decorah, Iowa, and Jeanneen (Irvy) of Moorland, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and special friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Norma, and daughter, Maureen.

Maurice donated his body to Mayo Clinic. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date with inurnment at the Graceland Cemetery – rural Fort Dodge. He was proud to have served his country as a member of the military and was able to participate in a Brushy Creek Honor Flight to Washington DC. He appreciated the opportunity to see the military memorials and monuments dedicated to those who have served.
