Eva M. Koppen, 94, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, February 7, 2019, at UnityPoint Trinity Regional Medical Center.

A service honoring Eva’s life will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 14, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Eva is survived by her children, Kathleen (Robert) Shearer, Maquoketa; Daniel (Sandra) Koppen, Chesapeake, VA; Dori (fiance Duane Wood) Snow, Fort Dodge; and Mary (Timothy) Carson, Marshville, NC; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and her special caregiver Vannessa LaCaille. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maynard, four siblings, Edward, Henry and Robert Eggerth and Betty Peterson and her cousin (who was like a sister) Arlene Fitch.

Eva Mae Eggerth, the daughter of Charles and Gladys (Slater) Eggerth, was born January 11, 1925, in Renwick. She graduated from Ledyard High School in 1944 and attended the University of Dubuque, from where she received her teaching certificate, and taught school for a short time. On May 25, 1946, Eva was united in marriage to Maynard Koppen at Swea City, and they celebrated 71 years of marriage. The couple lived in Dubuque and Ames where Maynard attended schools. They lived for several years in Oskaloosa and then Sigourney, before moving to Fort Dodge. In 1970, they moved to Rockwell City, where Eva worked for an abstract company and performed title searches on properties. In 1977, they retired and returned to Fort Dodge.

Eva was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a loyal member of the chancel choir and sang many solos. She was a member of the Fort Dodge Women’s Club. She served as choir director for several children choirs. She liked completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and playing card games. Eva enjoyed music, reading, sewing and was an avid collector of dolls.
