ALBERT “AL” YUNG

Albert “Al” Yung, 78, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednes­day, Aug­ust 22, 2018, at the Paula J. Baber Hos­pice Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Satur­day, August 25, 2018, at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery, where military rites will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 1856. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eileen (Reiff); children: Kirk Yung and his wife, Mary, Brian Yung and his wife, Jane, Beth Henderson and her husband, Mark, David Yung and his wife, Lori; 14 grandchildren: Michael, Thomas, Ryan, and Anna Yung; Allyson (Darren Croo), Lauren (Brian Iwanski), and Caroline Yung; Nicole, Alissa, and Joel Henderson; Abbey, Emily, Andrew, and Libbie Yung; sisters, Opal Winser and Isabella Abbott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna (Grubauer) Yung; brother, Robert Yung.

Al was born January 8, 1940, in Danbury, Iowa. He graduated from Danbury Catholic High School in 1958. He completed his bachelor and master’s degrees at the University of Iowa. He served in the United States Army from August 1964 until November of 1967. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Al began employment with Iowa Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services in 1970. He was the district supervisor in Fort Dodge until his retirement in 2002.

In retirement, he volunteered at Trinity Regional Hospital. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, fishing, and biking. He was always a faithful Iowa Hawkeye fan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Saint Edmond Catholic Schools or the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
