DEAN BASTOW

Dean Herbert Bastow, 82, of Temple, TX, passed away on Satur­day, July 14, 2018 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX. No services are planned at this time.

Mr. Bas­t­ow was born April 3, 1936 in Tingley, IA to Ernest and Leola Bastow. He graduated from Tingley High School in 1954. Dean then graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, with his bachelor’s degree in education in 1958. He married Barbara Johnson on May 31, 1959. In 1966, he received his master’s degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He taught 36 years in the Iowa Public School system with his longest tenure being at Prairie Community School and Prairie Valley School in Gowrie where he taught history and government, as well as serving as athletic director. He has been a resident of the Temple area for the past 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Brenda Dunn and Belinda Mattke and husband Jeff, as well as four grandchildren, Megan Dunn, Jordan Mattke and wife, Lori, Haden Mattke, and Paige Dunn.
