DES MOINES — Joy Christine (Chris) Johnson Musser, 69, of Des Moines was called home on April 6, 2018 at Kavanaugh Hospice House after a year long courageous battle with brain cancer.

Chris was born January 3, 1949 in Fort Dodge, IA to Dan and Ruth Eva Johnson. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1967 and then attended Morn­ingside College and Iowa State University, where she graduated in 1972. Chris married Doug Musser August 8, 1970 and they have lived most of their married life in Des Moines, IA.

Chris was an artist at heart and loved to design and create. She completed many projects, including large wall banners for their church family at Zion Lutheran Church. Prior to having children, she worked as an advertising artist for Younkers. After raising her family, she was employed in the field of window treatment fabrication.

Chris had a love for music – singing and playing piano. She enjoyed spending time with family by the lake, both in Okoboji and Minnesota.

She will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith as well as her loving nature as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, sister, aunt and sister in Christ. Her gentle heart, strong faith, warm smile and sense of humor will truly be missed.

She is survived by her husband Doug, daughter Carrie (Jeff) Dieken of Cedar Falls, daughter Katie (Chris) Snowbarger of Des Moines, brother Curt (Liz) Johnson of Fort Dodge, brother-in-law Rod (Cheryl) Musser of Des Moines, grandchildren Jessica, Johnna and Mattie Dieken and Jack and Amelia Snowbarger, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Dan and Ruth Eva Johnson.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 at Meredith Drive Reformed Church in Des Moines.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa and Animal Rescue League.
