RICHARD JACOB REINHART

Richard Jacob Reinhart, 85, of Fort Dodge passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Veterans Admin­istration Com­mun­ity Living Center in Des Moines.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. Nicholas Thackery officiating. Full Military honors will be conducted at the church by the VFW Post #1856 and the United States Air Force. A time of gathering for family and friends will be 9:30 AM Saturday until the time of services at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial will be at 3:30 PM on Saturday at the Washington Cemetery near Havelock, Iowa. The Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services are handling arrangements.

Richard Jacob Reinhart, the son of Walter and Winifred (Wood) Reinhart was born on March 4, 1932 in Havelock, Iowa. After Richard graduated from the Mallard High School he joined the Unites States Air Force on July 2, 1951. He served in the Korean War as a gunner on the B-36 Peacemaker. Richard served for 4 year before his honorable discharge July 1, 1955. On July 2, 1961, Richard was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Schmeling and in 1964 the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Richard worked at Brownies’ TV and Appliance and later was the custodian for eleven years at The Messenger. His wife passed away on October 12, 2011 and for the past few years he would winter with his daughter in New Mexico or North Carolina.

He loved participating in church activities and was part of the Laborers for Christ for many years with his wife participating in over 20 building project. He was not afraid to tell people about Jesus.

He was a past member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and current a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Richard was very active member in PICA and DAV.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Anna (James) Owens of Gulf Breeze, Florida; grandchildren, Eric, Tim, Tricia, Teri and Thomas Owens and two great granddaughters, Isabelle Owens and Hallie Harper and a sister-in-law, Myrna Stephenson.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary and their two sons, Walter Phillip and Timothy Jacob; also sister, Elizabeth Browning, a brother, Raymond Reinhart and two half-brothers, Edwin and John Jones.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Mission Central – LCMS World Mission Mapleton, Iowa.
