RAPHAEL “RAY” D. HALLIGAN

Raphael D. Halligan, 89, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the Crestview Nursing Home in Webster City.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 at Laufersweiler- Sievers Funeral Home and then 10:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Church, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy and Rev. Jim McAlpin concelebrating. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery where Military Rites will be presented by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. A visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 p.m.

Ray is survived by his wife, Rowena of Fort Dodge; 10 children, Linda Bohn; Dennis “Peg” Halligan; John Halligan; Donald “Deb” Halligan; Janet “Brent” Mitchell; Patrick “Carmie” Halligan all of Fort Dodge; Michael “Angie” Halligan of Clive; David “Jodi” Halligan of Urbandale; Paul “Julie” Halligan of Fort Dodge; Matthew “Jessica” Halligan of Forest Lake, MN; 32 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Cecelia Smith of Stockton, CA; Theresa Greip of Seal Beach, CA; brothers, Richard Halligan and Cody Halligan both of Stockton, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary (Coady) Halligan, brothers, Paul and John Charles Halligan.

Raphael D Halligan was born February 3, 1928, in Moorland. He graduated from Moorland High School. Ray enlisted in the National Guard in 1948. He served for 32 years and retired as a Captain. On July 12, 1949, Ray was united in marriage to Rowena. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Ray worked as a metal smith for Hormel’s for 37 years and then worked as a mechanic at U.S.G. until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion, the Local 31 Union, Knights of Columbus Council 613 and Holy Trinity Parish.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to St. Edmond Catholic Schools.
