He loved his Iowa Hawkeyes and was a season ticket holder for most of his life. He also enjoyed playing tennis, wintering in Florida, and spending many summers with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at Lake Okoboji.

George went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at the age of ninety-two. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, his parents, his brother John, and sister Ruth Hoag.
