CARL “RED” OLSEN

EAGLE GROVE/THOR — Carl Ludvig Olsen, the son of Lewis and Hattie (Wickerink) Olsen, was born on April 8, 1922, on the family farm near Vincent, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth.

Carl served in the United States Navy from September 18, 1942 until his honorable discharge on January 22, 1946.

On November 15, 1946, Carl was united in marriage with Marjorie Johnson in Fort Dodge. The couple made their home and farmed near Vincent and moved to Marjorie’s family farm near Thor, where they resided until moving to Eagle Grove in February of 2007. Carl and Marjorie liked traveling west for several winters to Needles, California and their many fishing trips to Canada. Marjorie preceded him in death on December 4, 2010 after 64 years of marriage.

Carl was a member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church.

Carl passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 95 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard Olsen and Otto Olsen; sisters, Julia Wilshusen, Olive Nichols, Laura Lawrence and infant, Laura Olsen.

Survivors include his son, Gary Olsen and wife Sheryl of Cedar Bluffs, NE; daughters, Cheryl Hansen and husband Daryl of Eagle Grove and Cindy Ohlerking and husband Pat of Charles City; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Olsen of Fort Dodge and Esther Albrecht of Pomeroy; brothers, Olaf Olsen of Orient, OH and Oscar Olsen of Urbandale and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – so proud of his legacy he left behind and loved them all dearly.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Private family graveside services will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery in Thor.
