Dump truck spotter seriously injured in Pocahontas County

POCAHONTAS — A Knoxville man was seriously injured Tuesday after being hit by a dump truck that was backing up on Iowa Highway 7 in Pocahontas County.

According to the crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, the dump truck was making a three-point turn within the intersection of Iowa Highway 7 and County Road N28 at a construction zone. The truck’s spotter, Cecil Ray Green, 55, of Knoxville, was standing directly behind the truck and was unaware the truck was backing up, the report said.

The driver of the dump truck, Alfred Crosson, 47, of Centerville, did not see Green in either mirror of the truck as he backed up.

Green was struck by the middle of the endgate and was transported to Mercy One in Sioux City with serious injuries.

It is unclear if Crosson and Green were working in the construction zone where the incident happened.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Fonda Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
