Drivers walk away from

semitrailer accident

Two drivers walked away from an accident involving a semitrailer and an SUV north of Fort Dodge early Friday morning.

The collision at approximately 7:45 a.m. completely disabled both vehicles after a westbound semi crossed the center line on 170th Street, hitting an eastbound SUV near the road’s intersection with Taylor Avenue.

The SUV, which was able to come to almost a full stop before being hit, pulled over to the shoulder before being sideswiped into a ditch. The semi continued to travel through the ditch, coming to a stop in a corn field.

A tank trailer on the semi was empty.

Drivers of both vehicles were transported to and subsequently released from UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. Sgt. Derek Christie of the Webster County Sheriff’s Office said both had non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi was cited for failure to maintain control. The name of the driver and the company the semi was registered to were not immediately available.
