Fort Dodge man sentenced for gun possession
SIOUX CITY — A Fort Dodge man was sentenced in federal court Thursday to nearly five years in prison for possession of a firearm by a felon.
Xavier Rhone, 23, received the sentence to 56 months after pleading guilty to the charge in November. Rhone was previously convicted of going armed with intent in Webster County in August 2015.
In August 2018, Rhone was in a vehicle stopped by law enforcement. During the traffic stop, officers found a backpack with a handgun owned by Rhone. DNA testing confirmed ownership of the firearm, which had been stolen.
Evidence presented in federal court also showed that the gun was used in connection with a first-degree robbery.
Following his prison term, Rhone will serve three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikala Steenholdt thanks in part to investigation by the Fort Dodge Police Department.
