Honduran man gets federal prison term

SIOUX CITY — A Honduran man has been sentenced to four months in federal prison after he illegally re-entered the United States.

Jose Palma-Murillo, 31, pleaded guilty to one count of illegal re-entry.

According to the United States attorney’s office, Northern District of Iowa, Palma-Murillo admitted that he illegally re-entered the United States after he was deported in June of 2013.

Palma-Murillo did not state when he returned to the states.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement became aware of him on Feb. 5, 2019, after he was arrested in Emmetsburg for driving on a revoked license and failing to provide proof of insurance.

After he serves his prison term, Palma-Murillo will have to serve one year of supervised release, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
