Thompson facing robbery charge
More than a week after a man was arrested on a robbery charge, his wife made her initial court appearance in the same case.
Genie K. Thompson, 39, of Fort Dodge, is facing one count of second-degree robbery.
She and her husband, John D. Thompson, 38, are both charged with an incident that happened at the Dollar General store on March 12.
It’s alleged that John Thompson entered the store and distracted employees while Genie Thompson hid merchandise, according to the criminal complaint.
When the pair was confronted by store staff, John Thompson allegedly threatened a worker with pepper spray. As the pair was fleeing the store, Thompson turned around and allegedly sprayed the employee in the face with pepper spray. That employee needed to be treated at Trinity Regional Medical Center.
John Thompson is being held on $10,000 bond in the Webster County Jail after his initial appearance on April 12.
Genie Thompson made her initial appearance Tuesday after turning herself in Monday night. She asked Magistrate Steve Kersten to release her on her own recognizance, citing other obligations she has.
However, after learning that she was released from prison last month on multiple forgery convictions, Kersten ordered Thompson held on $10,000 bond.
Her preliminary hearing is set for May 1.
