Pocahontas police warn about scam

POCAHONTAS – The Pocahontas Police Department has recently received complaints from citizens about phone solicitations. In one case, an individual on the phone advised a Pocahontas resident that they had won a monetary prize and that all they had to do to collect it was pay for associated fees.

According to Al Hinrickson, Pocahontas police chief, the Police Department, working with federal postal inspectors, has tracked the case to individuals in Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia, Florida and Jamaica.

“Remember, if it seems like a deal that’s too good to be true, then it probably is,” Hinrickson said in a press release. “Don’t be a victim.”

He cautioned people to be wary of phone, mail or email contact.

“Do not give these individuals any personal information, credit card numbers or bank account numbers,” he said in the press release.
