ICCC offers new class

Iowa Central Community College is offering a class to the public called Local Vietnam War History. The class will take place from Jan. 13 through May 5 at Iowa Central Main Campus in Fort Dodge.

The class will meet in person from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays. Additionally, students will be expected to spend two hours per week outside of the classroom working on the project.

The Local Vietnam War History class will be structured as a group project to research the more than 50 servicemembers in Iowa Central’s nine county region who were killed in the Vietnam War. Students will research information about the service member, as well as locate and interview family or friends to document their memory.

The information collected about each servicemember will be used to create a biography of their life.

Research includes, but is not limited to, collaborating with local groups or organizations, newspaper articles, and school yearbooks.

During class, students will hear from guest speakers, learn about and discuss America during the Vietnam War, discuss the project, formulate a plan, and develop the skill set necessary for this project.

Tuition for this class is $20. To enroll, visit https://bit.ly/3pQXWMS. The deadline for enrollment is Jan. 10. For questions, please contact Community Education Assistant Director Raeann Dischler at dischler@iowacentral.edu or 515-574-1292.
