Downed power lines close Kalo hill

KALO — A semitrailer hauling farm equipment on Nelson Avenue between Coalville and Otho in an area known as Kalo, caused several downed power lines on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Webster County Emergency Management Coordinator Dylan Hagen, the truck or its load caught some power lines, pulling the lines down across the road going up that big hill toward Otho.

Webster County Sheriff’s Deputy Jenny Randleman said one of the utility poles was completely snapped, as were several of the power lines.

MidAmerican Energy Co. arrived on scene shortly after the lines went down to begin repairs.

The road was closed to traffic while repairs were being made. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the road remained closed. Traffic to Otho from Coalville was diverted to the School Street entrance to the town.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
