City yard waste site opens soon

The compost site at the Fort Dodge Public Works facility, 3001 Eighth Ave. S., will open to the general public for yard waste beginning April 3.

There is no commercial access to the Public Works compost site.

The city will be continuing its COVID protocols from last year, including social distancing, limiting the number of vehicles at the site, encouraging mask use and asking citizens to remain in their vehicles.

Access to the compost site is limited to residents who live within the city limits and also pay for garbage service through the city.

Other rules include pickup trucks or trailers with yard waste or branches must be covered with a tarp to prevent items from blowing out and tree branches must be separated from leaves and grass.

The hours of the city compost site are from 8 a.m. until noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The site is closed on Sundays, Wednesdays and holidays.

The city’s curbside yard waste pick up will begin on April 9. Requests must be submitted by noon on Thursdays. Current sanitation customers can submit their request by texting “YARD WASTE” to 515-408-9888 and following the prompts.
