Some liquid ammonia fertilizer apparently leaked from a truck on Webster County Road D20 east of Fort Dodge Wednesday night.

The incident was reported at about 10 p.m., but actually happened several hours earlier, according to Fort Dodge Fire Chief Steve Hergenreter.

He said a valve wasn’t fully closed on a truck and the ammonia leaked out. Vincent firefighters and the regional hazardous materials team operated by the Fort Dodge Fire Department were called the the scene. Because the leak happened earlier in the day, the liquid had mostly evaporated and there was nothing for the hazardous materials team to do.

The incident was the first response for the new hazardous materials response truck delivered in late March.
