Today is last day to pick up gown packets to sew

Iowa Central officials want to remind people that today is the last day for volunteer sewers to pick up the gown packets that will be used by health care workers.

Packets can be picked up from 9 a.m. to noon today in front of the Iowa Central Career Education Building/Recreation Center.

Completed gowns may be dropped off at the same location this week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

To clarify for the volunteer sewers, each bag of material they will pick up is already cut into five pieces they will need to sew together — the front, two back panels, two sleeves, along with the rope tie for each gown. No cutting of material is required.

“We will evaluate the interest of volunteer sewers by mid-week and decide for sure to put a hold on the volunteer gown sewing project by Thursday,” said Jim Kersten, Iowa Central vice president of external relations and government affairs. “Thanks again to all of the volunteers and to the Iowa Central team distributing the gowns, led by Tom Beneke, Dave Pearson, and Brandon Bush.”
