Night hike at Indian Mounds scheduled for Saturday

The Webster and Hamilton County Conservation Boards will be sponsoring a night hike at the Skillet Creek Indian Mounds at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The public will have an opportunity to listen to sounds of the night and look for tracks of nocturnal animals. Using fluorescent tracking powder and black lights they will search for evidence of these animals that come out after dark. Enjoy the mysteries of the night while walking the moderately difficult hiking path through an old mining town and our prehistoric past.

Meet at the Skillet Creek Indian Mounds parking area by 7 p.m.

To reach the area, follow Iowa Highway 175 south of Dayton for approximately 4 1/2 miles. Turn north onto River Road just before the bridge crossing the Des Moines River. Turn onto Skillet Creek Road (left at the Y intersection). Just beyond the first curve will be the parking lot, which is the meeting place. Bring a flashlight and dress warmly for a more enjoyable winter excursion. This program is free and open to the public, so bring children and friends and join in the fun.
