Council to handle tax increment financing measures

Some procedural moves related to the potential redevelopment of the Crossroads Mall site are on the Fort Dodge City Council agenda for Monday.

A yet-to-be-named developer has made a written purchase offer for the site, according to Mayor Matt Bemrich and City Manager David Fierke. That company is now in a 120-day due diligence period that will end Dec. 4.

To be in a position to help, last month the City Council added the mall site to the Center City and Industrial Park Urban Renewal Area. That clears the way for the use of tax increment financing there. The process of making all the needed arrangements for that is to continue Monday.

The council meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S. First on the agenda is a workshop on updating the sections of the city code relating to garbage and recycling collection.

The council’s regular business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. That’s when the council will consider the tax increment financing measures.
