Blackout hits Kossuth County 911 center

ALGONA — A blackout and a series of power surges put the Kossuth County 911 dispatching center out of service for several hours Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

During that time all 911 calls were routed to another dispatch center in the area, according to David Penton, the county’s emergency management coordinator.

“At no time would a 911 call have gone unanswered,” Penton said in a written statement.

He said that at about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday there was a power outage in Algona. There was a series of power surges that caused equipment failures, he said.

The county’s information technology staff went to work to bring the center back online. All major services were restored by about 2 a.m. Wednesday.
