WEBSTER CITY — Wyatt Opperman has been hired as a deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.

Opperman is a native of Decorah. He moved to Fort Dodge to play baseball at Iowa Central Community College.

He has a degree in criminal justice.

Opperman most recently worked for the Webster County Jail and also for Rabiner Treatment Center.

He will attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in January and will officially begin his duties at the end of the 16-week training. Opperman will be based out of the Ellsworth area.

“Everyone has been really welcoming and transitioning between the counties really easy,” he said.

“We welcome Wyatt to our office and look forward to years of service with us,” said Hamilton County Sheriff Doug Timmons. “He should do very well.”
