Fort Dodge Correctional Facility inmate dies
An inmate who was serving a prison sentence at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility has died.
The Iowa Department of Corrections identified the man as 53-year-old Michael Kennedy.
The DOC said Kennedy suffered a medical emergency while at the prison Monday.
Rescuers from the Fort Dodge Fire Department were dispatched to the prison at 1550 L St. at 8:27 p.m. They then transported Kennedy to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m.
An autopsy will be conducted on Kennedy to determine how he died.
The DOC said Kennedy was serving a 15-year prison sentence for being a habitual offender — property crimes, out of Polk County.
His sentence began on Dec. 6, 2017.
