Boom strikes power line, worker shocked

NEWELL (AP) – A 20-year-old worker has been hospitalized after being shocked when a boom struck power lines in northwest Iowa.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office said the accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Monday near Newell. Sheriff Kory Elston said John Nielsen, of Storm Lake, was on the ground and helping to operate a boom truck when the boom made contact with the lines.

Medics said Nielsen was conscious and breathing when they arrived. He was taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
