Mental health discussion offered

LifeWorks Community Services is hosting a panel discussion on mental illness from 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 19 at its vocational site, 1303 A St.

“People can benefit from information,” said LifeWorks Community Services Executive Director Teresa Naughton. “According to the National Institutes of Health, one in four adults – approximately 61.5 million Americans – experiences mental illness in a given year. One in 17 – about 13.6 million – live with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder.

The seminar is open to the public, and could be especially helpful to anyone wanting basic facts about mental illness.

Panelists include Julie Schneider, advanced registered nurse practitioner; Connie Nabholz, a mother, decorator, employee and a survivor of mental illness; and Christina Foth, Integrated Health Home Program executive director.

This is a free seminar that includes a light supper. Those who wish to attend should RSVP to LifeWorks, 576-2126, by the close of business on May 12.
