Morgans to bring musical message to First Covenant tonight

Gospel music artists Phil and Pam Morgan will perform at 7 p.m. today at First Covenant Church, 201 Ave. H.

The performance will be a multimedia presentation combining close family harmony and instrumentals.

The couple’s message is summed up in their signature song ”Take a Stand.” It’s a song that’s especially meaningful to the couple because Pam Morgan was once told she would not be able to stand on her own or walk again.

She was paralyzed from the chest down after the van the Morgans were in hit a bridge abutment near Butler, Missouri, on June 4, 2000. A neurosurgeon told the Kansas City Star in 2002 that her recovery was ”essentially unprecedented.”

”When tragedy struck our family, God was the only one who got us through,” Pam Morgan said in a written statement. ”My prayer is that through our story and music, others will be motivated to walk with God every day no matter what life brings.”

Pam Morgan wrote about her recovery in her 2009 book ”I Stand.”

The Morgans have released 15 CDs since 1996.

They married in 1990 and have two daughters.

There will be no admission, but a freewill offering will be accepted.
