Arrest made in murder cold case
Six years after Donald Preston was found shot to death in a rural Webster County field, an arrest has been made.
According to court documents, Christopher Todd Johnson, 49, of Cedar Rapids, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Johnson will have his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court on Friday.
Preston was found shot to death in a Moorland-area field in December 2016. His body was found in a field near a curve on Webster County Road P51, just southwest of Fort Dodge. His death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
