FDSH graduate injured, son killed in weekend wreck

GoFundMe page set up for funeral, recovery expenses

KENSETT — A 2017 Fort Dodge Senior High graduate sustained serious injuries in a Friday night crash that took the life of her 3-year-old son in Worth County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Maggie Harvey, 24, of Northwood, formerly of Fort Dodge, was northbound on Highway 65 just north of Kensett when her 2017 Chrysler Pacifica crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Toyota Avalon driven by John Hinderscheid, 45, of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Harvey’s vehicle rolled and came to a rest on its top in the middle of the road when it was struck by a semitruck driven by Dennis Stoneking, 62, of Northwood.

The crash happened about 10:20 p.m. on Friday.

Harvey’s 3-year-old son, Thielen Fausnaugh, as well as Hinderscheid, were killed in the crash. Harvey was transported to Mercy Hospital in Mason City by the Mason City Emergency Management Service.

Harvey is the daughter of St. Edmond Catholic School alumni Joe and Kelly (McCarville) Harvey. She attended St. Edmond before transferring to Fort Dodge Senior High, where she graduated in 2017. She also played softball at Iowa Central Community College.

A GoFundMe account has been started to help Harvey and her fiance Justin Fausnaugh with Thielen’s funeral expenses and for Maggie’s recovery.

As of 7 p.m. on Monday, the fundraiser had collected more than $10,000 of its $12,000 goal.
