Fort Dodge man charged with baseball bat assault

A Fort Dodge man is charged with several felonies stemming from two incidents over this past week.

Jamar D. Brown, 43, of Fort Dodge, is facing two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of willful injury causing serious injury, all Class C felonies.

According to a release from the Fort Dodge Police Department and court records, on Sunday around 7:30 p.m., a man went to the Webster County Law Enforcement Center to report an assault and robbery.

According to the victim, Brown threw the victim’s head against a brick wall in the 300 block of South Eighth Street and took the victim’s cell phone.

For that incident, Brown was charged with one count of second-degree robbery.

On Tuesday around 11 p.m., Brown allegedly assaulted a different man in the 300 block of South Eighth Street. According to the criminal complaint, Brown swung a baseball bat at the victim, striking him several times and breaking his arm. Brown then took personal items from the victim and fled.

When Brown was arrested early Thursday morning, he was also found in possession of methamphetamine and charged accordingly.

Brown had his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court on Thursday morning.

For the four charges, Brown is being held at the Webster County Jail on $56,000 cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 17.
