Chris Janson will perform June 25 in Manson during the 150th anniversary of Manson Greater Crater Days as part of the Crash My Crater event. Janson has multiple No. 1 singles.

MANSON — For Jesse Grossnickle, giving back to his hometown is what inspires him each year to bring the biggest and best musical act possible to Crash My Crater.

Held during Manson Greater Crater Days, this year, which marks the 150th anniversary of the city, will feature Chris Janson on Saturday, June 25.

Janson will hit the stage just outside of Shore Side Pub and Grub, which is owned by Grossnickle and his wife, PJ.

For Grossnickle, the idea of taking over the street dance portion of the epic weekend was one he embraced but with an even bigger idea in mind.

“I was approached in 2017 about it to see if we had any interest in taking it over from Todd Partlow,” Grossnickle said. “He handles the truck pull both nights, and along with the Middleton Golf Classic, it was just too much I think. Since we were doing music inside the restaurant, it just seemed like the right thing to do.

“I was definitely intrigued by the opportunity to do it, but the biggest thing I told people was that I wanted to do something that would not only bring together the people of Manson, but show outside people how great the community is.”

Grossnickle decided to start working to bring in the “biggest and best” musical act he could each year. In 2017, that was SmithField. Tyler Rich and Ross Ellis followed with Riley Green and Travis Denning headlining in 2019.

After COVID scrapped the event in 2020, Jameson Rodgers and Niko Moon came together to delight fans with their sounds.

Now, it is Janson who will look to do the same. The 35-year-old Missouri native has charted multiple singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts including “Good Vibes” and “Done,” which both went to No. 1.

Janson is set to release his fourth studio album, “All In,” on April 29. His first album, “Buy Me A Boat,” reached No. 4 on the U.S. Country charts.

“Bobby Bones has him listed as one of his Top-6 favorite artists to see live,” Grossnickle said. “Downtown Country Jam had him and it was a huge turnout and success. My goal is to bring in someone who will provide high energy and get the crowd going, and Chris fits that.”

Grossnickle admits one of the biggest hurdles to finding the right act is getting it to line up with where they are touring at the time.

“He’s at a big festival in Colorado the Thursday before so we were able to put it together for him to stop back through on his way to Nashville,” Grossnickle said. “We had some challenges to overcome, but Chris has been very easy to work with. He comes from a small community like Manson, so he understands what we are going up against in putting an event like this on.”

While still working to put everything together for the epic night, Grossnickle hopes everybody that comes out “has a good time and leaves with a good impression that shines a light on Manson as a community.”

“I know it happens outside of Shore Side, but it’s not about that,” he said. “For me, at the end of the day, Manson is my hometown and I want people to see how great the community is.

“Not a lot of small towns with 1,700 people can bring in someone like Chris, who told us to strap up for 3,000-to-4,000 people. I just want everyone to have a good time.”

Tickets for the concert are available at Shore Side Pub and Grub in Manson, at Hy-Vee in Fort Dodge and online via crashmycrater2022.eventbrite.com.
