Five FDCSD students selected to OPUS Honor Choir

Jillian Leman, Mina DeJong, both in eighth grade, and Harper Sandahl, a sixth-grader were chosen to participate in OPUS Honor Choir at the All-State Music Festival to be held Nov. 18.

Five students, two from Fort Dodge Senior High School and three from Fort Dodge Middle School, were selected to this year’s OPUS Honor Choir.

OPUS is an honor choir opportunity for students in grades 5-9, sponsored by the Iowa Choral Directors Association. More than 2,200 students auditioned via recordings for the 720 positions in the four OPUS Honor Choirs.

The Dodger vocalists selected are:

Abbi Casciato, freshman; Micah Flaherty, freshman; Mina DeJong, eighth grade; Jillian Leman, eighth grade; and Harper Sandahl, sixth grade.

The OPUS Honor Choir will perform at the All-State Music Festival at 4 p.m. Nov. 18 in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University in Ames.

“We are proud of the five students who will be representing the Fort Dodge Community schools in this year’s OPUS Honor Choir,” said Joan Ascherl, middle school vocal music instructor. “This is an opportunity for these students to be a part of an elite choir, and improve their craft which will in turn be beneficial for all of our Dodger choirs.”
