Badger Lake Trail project moves foward

Supervisors award contract

The Badger Lake Trail Loop and the Webster County Nature Center project both moved forward Tuesday morning with approvals from the Webster County Board of Supervisors.

“The supervisors approved two items today regarding the Badger Lake Trail Loop. They awarded the project to Peterson Contractors, Inc. for the amount listed in the agenda and they approved a supplemental agreement with Snyder & Associates to assist with the construction administration for the trail project,” said Webster County Conservation Board Director Matt Cosgrove.

The contract with Peterson Contractors Inc., of Reinbeck, was in the amount of $1,196,915.78. Of that funding, $700,000 is coming from a Transportation Alternative Grant administered by the Iowa Department of Transportation so the contract will need to be approved by the DOT before the contractor can begin work.

“From here, the contractor will sign the contract and we’ll schedule a pre-construction meeting to determine the schedule and answer questions. If the contractor moves in this fall or winter they will begin clearing and grading. The asphalt surfacing will likely occur next spring or summer,” said Cosgrove.

The board also approved a supplemental agreement for additional services with Snyder and Associates, of Ankeny, to prepare and record a plat of survey for the Nature Center project.

The company will be paid a maximum of $6,000 for that work.

“The survey plat will be used by the city to transfer the property ownership to the county. The city and county are working on a memorandum of understanding that will list the details for each party,” said Cosgrove.

The memorandum will be presented in the future to the Fort Dodge City Council and the Board of Supervisors.
