2 FD juveniles injured in Calhoun Co. crash

KNIERIM — Two Fort Dodge juveniles suffered serious injuries early Saturday morning after the car they were traveling in crashed into a ditch in Calhoun County.

Prior to the crash, a traffic stop was initiated by a deputy at about 3:51 a.m., according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The juvenile driver of a Toyota Camry failed to stop for the deputy, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The driver allegedly continued along a paved road that eventually turned to gravel. The driver then lost control near the intersection of 220th Street and Xenia Avenue.

Next, the car hit a culvert and rolled end over end before landing back on the wheels in the ditch. The crash was reported at 3:54 a.m.

The driver was ejected, according to Sheriff’s Office reports. The passenger was not able to exit the vehicle on their own.

Both were transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Charges are pending, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County Emergency Medical Service and firefighters from Manson and Knierim, were on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
