Moehnke to seek fifth term in Ward 1

Fort Dodge City Councilman Terry Moehnke is seeking re-election.

He is seeking his fifth term representing Ward 1. That ward includes the west side of Fort Dodge, Pleasant Valley and part of downtown.

”I’ve got a fairly good, proven record of getting things done,” he said.

”I have a good working relationship with most of the city staff,” he added. ” I think I have the experience to get things done that maybe somebody else would not have.”

Moehenke said he wants to stay on the council so that he can see projects such as the Northwest River District master plan implementation and the development of Corridor Plaza get completed.

”To see that come to fruition would be a great thing,” he said.

He is an optometrist who lives at 222 Crestview Drive.

Moehnke led the effort to create Veterans Memorial Park at Badger Lake. He is also lead organizer of Backpack Buddies, an effort in which volunteers load food items into the backpacks of qualifying local children so they are assured of having something to eat over the weekends.

He was born in Rochester, Minnesota, and grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is a Navy veteran.

Moehnke earned his optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He also earned a master’s degree in clinical vision research from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Mayor Matt Bemrich, and councilmembers Lydia Schuur (at-large) and Kim Alstott (Ward 4) have also launched their re-election bids.
