Input sought on FD farmers market
Extension staff to be at market today
The city of Fort Dodge is working with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach — Food Systems to understand community needs and interest regarding the local farmers market.
The project includes interviews, public input sessions, a survey, and a business analysis and economic impact study.
The next phase of the project is a consumer and vendor survey developed to understand the needs and interest related to the current Fort Dodge farmers market located at Corridor Plaza (the former Crossroads Mall site.) Iowa State University Extension and Outreach staff will be at the farmers market from 9 a.m. to noon today to get public input.
”The primary goal of this study is to ensure the continued access to and consumption of fresh, local healthy foods,” said Carissa Harvey, the city’s strategic planner. ”Our community is seeing changes as a result of public planning efforts and private development interests. Understanding what the public wants to see out of our local farmers market helps us understand and respond as we plan for the future of Fort Dodge.”
The study is funded through a Wellmark MATCH grant, which has a focus on continued access to and consumption of nutritious foods.
