Lehigh, Dayton firefighters douse field fire Sunday
Chief: More than an acre burned
LEHIGH — A field fire charred about an acre of ground Sunday afternoon in southern Webster County.
The fire was reported at about 2 p.m. It was located along 330th Street between Racine and Samson avenues.
“The resident there had a controlled burn,” said Lehigh Fire Chief Aaron Morriss. “It got out of control and we got called.”
He said the resident was trying to burn a timber line along the edge of a field. He said the flames spread to the field and the roadside ditch.
There were no injuries and no buildings were damaged. Morriss said a fence was damaged.
He estimated that an acre to an acre and a half was burned.
Lehigh and Dayton firefighters responded. They were on the scene for about an hour.
