Humboldt bus driver will not be charged

Parents: Son came home with a bruise; Attorney’s Office: No evidence to show driver intended to cause pain

A Humboldt Community School District bus driver who allegedly assaulted a boy on a bus will not be charged with a crime, according to the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 13, deputies with the Webster County Sheriff’s Office were called to an address in Badger for a report of a boy who had allegedly been assaulted by a bus driver.

There, Mandy and Todd Oleson told authorities their son came home crying with a bruise under his chin.

The couple also posted photos of the apparent injury on Facebook.

After the alleged incident, the parents expressed disappointment when they were told by the district’s transportation director that the bus driver would be taking a different route.

The driver has been on paid leave during the investigation.

Deputies completed a report from the boy’s parents. Deputies collected bus video, witness statements, and statements from the parties involved.

The matter was referred to the Webster County Attorney’s Office for an evaluation of whether the evidence established a prosecutable criminal offense of assault.

On Thursday, the Webster County Attorney’s Office determined there was not sufficient evidence to sustain a criminal conviction for assault beyond a reasonable doubt, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The Webster County Attorney’s Office reported there is no evidence to show the bus driver intended to cause the juvenile minor pain or injury, or that the bus driver intended to be offensive or insulting with his contact.

The Webster County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by the Humboldt Community School District and the Webster County Attorney’s Office.
