Suspicious activity reported near Reynolds Park

Police: Adults offered rides to juveniles

Fort Dodge police are investigating after receiving multiple reports of adults offering rides to children near Reynolds Park on Friday.

The first report was made at about 3:20 p.m. as students were walking home from school, according to Capt. Ryan Gruenberg.

At about that time, two juveniles were offered a ride home from a man driving a van. The juveniles went to their home and reported that incident to their parents.

A second report around that time indicated a white bald man in a red shirt offered juveniles a ride home. That man was reportedly driving a small black car. The juveniles in that incident went the opposite direction to their home and the vehicle drove off, Gruenberg reported.

A third report was made at about 4:30 p.m. when a juvenile was riding his bicycle. At around that time, a black male in a blue car communicated something to him before the juvenile fled to a nearby residence.

Although no physical contact was made during any of the alleged incidents, Gruenberg said police are taking the reports seriously.

“In all of these incidents, there was no physical contact made and suspects were described as never exiting their vehicles,” Gruenberg said. “Only communicating with the juveniles verbally.”

Gruenberg said police are still gathering information relating to the incidents.

“The descriptions within the incidents vary, both for suspects and vehicle description,” he said. “We are unsure if this is one suspect or multiple suspects at this point. We would encourage anyone in the area that may have surveillance cameras to view their footage and let us know if they see anything suspicious. The juveniles did the right thing by running in the opposite direction and informing adults.”

Anyone who may have information is encouraged to contact the Police Department at 573-1426. They can also anonymously report information to Webster County Crime Stoppers by calling 573-1444, visiting www.wccrimestoppers.com or texting “LEC” and the tip to 274637.
