Estherville man sentenced for meth distribution

ESTHERVILLE — An Estherville man who distributed methamphetamine in the Lakes area was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in federal prison, according to a news release from the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa.

Chance Jacob Wetter, 26, received the term after a Sept. 22 guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to distribute meth within 1,000 feet of a protected location.

In the plea agreement, he and others admitted to distributing in the Lakes area from October 2019 to February 2020. Wetter sold two ounces of meth to an undercover officer at the public library in Spirit Lake and another two ounces at his apartment, which was within 1,000 feet of Memorial Park in Spirit

Lake.

Following his prison term, he must serve a seven-year term of supervised release.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikala Steenholdt and investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force based in Sioux City, which consists of law enforcement personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration; Sioux City Police Department; Homeland Security Investigations; Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office; South Sioux City, Nebraska, Police Department; Nebraska State Patrol; Iowa National Guard; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; United States Marshals Service; South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation; and Woodbury County Attorney’s
