FD man arrested for dousing victim in gasoline

Victim escaped without injury

A Fort Dodge man was charged with first-degree arson after police said he doused a victim with gasoline and attempted to trap her underneath a mattress on Dec. 17.

Patrick McGuire, 40, made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court on Saturday. He was arrested Friday.

After allegedly dousing the victim in gasoline and trying to trap her, Fort Dodge Police said he dumped gasoline throughout the residence in the 1400 block of 17th Street Southwest, opened a propane tank and allowed the gas to flow throughout the house. Both the gasoline and propane gas are highly combustible materials with low flash points.

The victim escaped the residence without injury.

McGuire is held in Webster County Jail on a $60,000 cash-only bond; $50,000 for first-degree arson, a class B felony, and $10,000 for violation of probation.

His violation of probation charge has been transferred to the District Court. A preliminary hearing for the arson charge has been scheduled for Jan. 8.
