A former architecture business was destroyed by a fire with flames reaching 30 feet into the air on Monday night.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department responded to calls about a fire at 709 Kenyon Road, which formerly housed the Griffith Co. Architects offices, at about 7:20 p.m. The blaze quickly spread throughout the A-frame building, spreading dark smoke around the area.

The Fort Dodge Police Department and Iowa State Patrol shut down Kenyon Road between Avenue C and Triton Plaza during the fire.

By around 8 p.m., the firefighters had the blaze under control, FDFD Chief Steve Hergenreter said.

“We’re in the overhaul stage, putting out hot spots inside,” he said.
