County gains 59 new COVID-19 cases

Inches closer to 1,000 total

Another 59 COVID-19 infections have been reported to Webster County Public Health in the last week, the agency said Tuesday, bringing the county’s total number of cases to 971.

All 69 active Webster County cases are in the community, with no open cases remaining at Fort Dodge Correctional Facility. Current guidelines for releasing patients from isolation include 10 days passing since symptoms first appeared, improvement of symptoms and 24 hours fever-free without the use of medication.

In total, 361 cases have surfaced at the prison, with the remaining 610 in the county at large.

As of Tuesday, live data maps from the New York Times placed Iowa in the top 10 states and U.S. territories with the highest number of cases per capita. Iowa has over 57,000 cases in the state, or 130 cases per 100,000 people. Most other states on the list are in the deep South and upper Midwest.

Webster County cases fall into the following age categories:

• Children (age 0-17): 41

• Adults (age 18-40): 479

• Middle aged adults (age 41-60): 307

• Older adults (age 61-80): 127

• Elderly adults (age 81+): 17

WCPH continues to urge residents to stay home if sick, awaiting results or if you live with someone who has been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case. Those unsure if their symptoms are seasonal allergies should stay home until knowing for certain to avoid exposing others.
