A small section of Fort Dodge, mainly in the downtown area, experienced a short power outage Wednesday afternoon.

The four-minute outage began at 2:44 p.m. and affected 773 customers, Geoff Greenwood, media relations manager for MidAmerican Energy Company.

The boundaries of the outage were North 12th Street, the 600 block of L Street, the 1400 block of Fourth Avenue South and the 300 block of Central Avenue.

According to Greenwood, the brief outage was caused when a piece of equipment that helps protect the system failed.
