10 UNDER 40

Owner, Baker Electric

Editor’s note: This feature highlights one of 10 individuals under age 40 who make a difference in their business and their community. This spotlight first ran in the Sept. 8, 2019, special section of The Messenger, presented in conjunction with the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance and the Fort Dodge Young Professionals.

What sparked your interest in your career path?

I wanted a good paying job right away, and my dad is an electrician at the Labs, so I thought that the Iowa Central Community College electrical school would be a perfect fit for me.

What’s the best part of your work?

I really enjoy all parts of my job. The hands on, the interaction with the public, and the opportunities to teach people is very rewarding.

Life is full of defining moments that helped shape who you are today. What’s your defining moment?

The day my first son was born. At that point, I realized that we are playing for keeps, and life is going to get tough. I better be ready.

What’s the best advice you ever received?

“You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.”

What motivates you to give back to your community?

In a way, the community helped me get to where I am today. It really feels like the right thing to do.

What community project that you were involved in are you most proud of and why?

I am very proud and honored to be a member of the Saint Edmond School Board. Saint Edmond helped me become the man I am today.

What’s your advice to other young professionals?

Work as hard as you can and try to be a great role model for your kids.

What would you like to share about your family and/or hobbies?

I have an absolutely incredible wife Amanda, three amazing kids (Kase, 16; Klara, 14; and Klay, 12). I enjoy the lake with my family and friends, snowmobiling and deer hunting.
